Interpretation

Which emerging market index performed the best? Often a stock index rallies while its currency devalues, leading to a zero-sum game in dollar terms. The charts above convert each index into US Dollars, allowing for an accurate perfomance comparison.
According to Investopia, an emerging market economy is one in which the country is becoming a developed nation and is determined through many socio-economic factors. Investors seek out emerging markets for the prospect of high returns, as they often experience faster economic growth as measured by GDP. Investments in emerging markets come with much greater risk due to political instability, domestic infrastructure problems, currency volatility and limited equity opportunities, as many large companies may still be "state-run" or private. Also, local stock exchanges may not offer liquid markets to outside investors.
